Senior Network Engineer

  • Own and evolve a large, multi?site enterprise network across ANZ

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to lead the design, security, and strategic evolution of a large enterprise network operating across Australia and New Zealand.

This senior, hands?on role sits within a complex multi?site distribution, warehousing, supply chain, and e?commerce environment, offering real ownership of network architecture, security, and long?term modernisation.

About the Role

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring highly available, secure, and scalable network services across a large enterprise footprint. You will provide technical leadership, architectural oversight, vendor management, and expert support during complex incidents and major network initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Network Architecture and Design

  • Design and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN, SD?WAN, wireless, VPN, and internet edge environments
  • Define routing, redundancy, and high?availability strategies (BGP, OSPF, HSRP, IPSEC, QoS)
  • Lead network refresh, modernisation, and segmentation initiatives
  • Develop and maintain high?level and low?level design documentation and network standards

Multi?Site and Cloud Connectivity

  • Manage and optimise multi?site WAN connectivity across ANZ
  • Design and support hybrid connectivity to Azure and AWS environments
  • Support network integration for cloud workloads and SaaS platforms

Security and Compliance

  • Own firewall architecture, IDS/IPS, access control, and network segmentation frameworks
  • Implement network?level security controls aligned to organisational policies
  • Support audit, compliance, and risk mitigation activities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead resolution of complex network incidents
  • Manage structured change and release processes
  • Oversee carrier, MSP, and vendor performance
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers

Performance and Continuous Improvement

  • Implement proactive network monitoring and alerting
  • Conduct capacity planning and resilience testing
  • Produce performance and availability reporting
  • Develop automation using Python or PowerShell to reduce manual processes

Skills and Experience

Required Experience

  • 7–10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
  • Proven experience in large, multi?site environments
  • Strong routing, switching, and firewall expertise
  • Hands?on cloud networking experience (Azure and/or AWS)
  • Experience working within structured change management frameworks

Technical Skills

  • TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, QoS
  • BGP, OSPF, HSRP, IPSEC
  • Enterprise firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco, or similar)
  • Enterprise wireless (802.11ac / ax)
  • Network monitoring tools
  • Automation and scripting (Python, PowerShell)
  • Strong understanding of OSI and TCP/IP models
